1 July 7 pm Cinema in Proza: Oscar Winners – during summer, in our cinema we screen films created by directors who received the Academy Award for best directing. Which doesn’t mean we will only show Oscar-winning films… On the first evening of July, we invite you to watch a movie by Steven Soderbergh. Admission: free

 

4 July 8 pm The Gentle Disarming of the Self – a performance implemented as part of the ‘persona’ project, created by Claudio Santana Bórquez. Inspired by texts by Byung-Chul Han and James Hillman, the performance will be staged in three languages (English, Spanish and Italian). Director: Claudio Santana Bórquez. Admission: free

 

5 July 7 pm Three Quarters. Conversations on Literature: Szczerek and Grin – the July meeting in the cycle is organized as part of Authors’ Reading Month. Irek Grin will talk with Ziemowit Szczerek, writer and journalist, about his latest novel Siwy dym albo pięć cywilizowanych plemion [Grey smoke or five civilised tribes]. Admission: free

At 7 pm we invite everyone for a conversation with Katarzyna Boni, Polish writer of reportages, and at 8.30 pm, for a meeting with Oya Baydar, one of the most eminent Turkish prose writers. 14 July 4 pm Brave Contexts: Samar Yazbek – literary section of Brave Festival. The meeting will be devoted to Samar Yazbek, highly regarded Syrian journalist. Dr. Ziad Abou Saleh (a Syrian lecturer living in Wrocław) will present her work, and actor Ewa Skibińska will read fragments of her books. Admission: free

Ewelina Godlewska-Byliniak and Justyna Lipko-Konieczna will speak about their book Regaining Presence. Disability in Theatre and Performance, and actor Ewa Skibińska will read fragments. 19 July 7 pm Authors’ Reading Month at Proza: Zyta Rudzka and Haydar Karataş – two meetings with authors. At 7 pm we invite for a conversation with Zyta Rudzka, Polish writer and playwright, and at 8.30 pm, for a meeting with Haydar Karataş, writer and political activist of Kurdish origin, who spent over ten years in Turkish prisons. 20 July 4.30 pm Brave Contexts: Tadeusz Dębicki – literary section of Brave Festival. Journalist Magda Podsiadły will speak about Tadeusz Dębicki, traveller and reporter, and actor Ewa Skibińska will read fragments of his book Moienzi Nzadi. At the Gates of Congo. Admission: free

29 July 7.00 pm Booker in Wrocław: Tokarczuk, Croft & Lloyd-Jones – on 22 May 2018, Olga Tokarczuk and her translator Jennifer Croft received Man Booker International Prize – one of the most prestigious literary awards in the world (for Flights, the first ever Polish novel to receive the prize). In July, we invite you to celebrate this wonderful event in Wrocław: on the music stage of New Horizons International Film Festival, Tokarczuk will appear with her two English translators: Croft and Antonia Lloyd-Jones. The meeting will be moderated by Irek Grin. Admission: free, English translation available.
